Public Works actively works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficient infrastructure, capital improvement projects, and commitment to the City's Strategic Plan. Electric Vehicle Charging StationsPublic Works installed eight dual-port electric vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout the city, including two solar-powered charging stations. The City plans to install additional stations when possible. | ||
Energy Assessment StudyPublic Works commenced an Energy Assessment Study for City-owned buildings and parks to identify potential energy saving measures that will provide sustained energy use reductions, technology advancement, and operational cost reductions. | ||
Traffic EngineeringPublic Works maintains 78 traffic signals, which are synchronized to improve traffic flow. According to the Orange County Transportation Authority, traffic signal synchronization countywide reduces fuel consumption and results in 1 billion pounds in greenhouse gas reductions. | ||
LED & Solar LightingPublic Works continues to upgrade all lights to LED lights citywide, including traffic signal lights, with plans to install solar light fixtures where feasible. | ||
South OC Wastewater Authority Heat & Cool Water ExchangePublic Works partners with the South Orange County Water Authority (SOCWA) to exchange heated and cooled water that benefits SOCWA’s treatment of wastewater and heats the Crown Valley Community Center pool. This mutual exchange uses less gas and saves money. | ||
Public TransportationFewer cars on the road means reduced greenhouse gas emissions, which is why Public Works and the City of Laguna Niguel encourage residents to visit nearby beaches and communities via its free Summer Trolley. |
