Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Public Works installed eight dual-port electric vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout the city, including two solar-powered charging stations. The City plans to install additional stations when possible.

Energy Assessment Study

Public Works commenced an Energy Assessment Study for City-owned buildings and parks to identify potential energy saving measures that will provide sustained energy use reductions, technology advancement, and operational cost reductions.

Traffic Engineering

Public Works maintains 78 traffic signals, which are synchronized to improve traffic flow. According to the Orange County Transportation Authority, traffic signal synchronization countywide reduces fuel consumption and results in 1 billion pounds in greenhouse gas reductions.

LED & Solar Lighting

Public Works continues to upgrade all lights to LED lights citywide, including traffic signal lights, with plans to install solar light fixtures where feasible.

SOCWA-Water-Heat-Exchange Opens in new window

South OC Wastewater Authority Heat & Cool Water Exchange

Public Works partners with the South Orange County Water Authority (SOCWA) to exchange heated and cooled water that benefits SOCWA’s treatment of wastewater and heats the Crown Valley Community Center pool. This mutual exchange uses less gas and saves money.

Public Transportation

Fewer cars on the road means reduced greenhouse gas emissions, which is why Public Works and the City of Laguna Niguel encourage residents to visit nearby beaches and communities via its free Summer Trolley.
