Program Description
The Residential Annual Resurfacing Program is the maintenance of Citywide residential roadways per the Pavement Management Program. Residential Annual Resurfacing, helps the City preserve and extend the life of our roads. The program, commonly known as the "Slurry Seal" consists of two phases: Phase 1 and Phase 2. Minor roadway improvements such as crack sealing and asphalt patching occur in Phase 1. Phase 2 consists of the application of Type II slurry seal, which is a water-based, emulsified asphalt mixture. The added useful life of the rehabilitated roadway is 7 years. More questions? Please review our FAQs below or: | ![]() |
FAQs
Slurry Seal is petroleum-based emulsion product that is mixed with fine aggregate and applied evenly across the entire surface of an asphalt street.
Slurry Seal provides a protective surface to an existing asphalt street, A slurry seal application preserves the integrity of the street and will allow it to remain in good condition for a number of years.
Crews will seal any cracks and remove/replace compromised asphalt sections. Such activities may require crews making visits to your street. All work may be dusty and noisy. Tarps will be placed over storm drains and held in place with sandbags. These will be removed at the end of the project and/or if it rains.
Access to your street during the slurry seal application will be temporarily limited to be only between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Once the slurry seal has been applied, street access may be closed for up to 6 hours for the slurry seal to properly cure and dry. All work is subject to equipment failures, unforeseen and weather delays.
These services should not be impacted significantly. All services will be notified ahead of time to modify their services. Please note, emergency services will not be impacted.
No. Please plan ahead and park on another street if you are planning on coming and going during the drying time. Vehicles will be only be permitted to drive on the street after the applied slurry has dried and the contractor has re-opened the street. Slurry seal make take up to 6 hours to dry.
Sidewalks will not be affected.
Work is subject to equipment failures, weather, and unforseen delays.
Emergency services will not be impacted.
The contractor will slurry several streets in one day and the application process is relatively quick. Depending on the weather, hotter days will cure and dry the slurry faster. Please do not drive or walk on the street until the street is re-opened by the contractor.
This is a normal and expected short-term occurrence after the street has received a slurry seal application. Street sweepers will collect the rocks as they progress along their sweeping routes.
